There are lots of big grouper out in deep water. Charter boats with long ranges have been reporting catches in the 40-60 lb class.
Kyle Smith, son of Randy and Karen Smith, celebrated his 13th birthday by taking his two friends last week on the Hey Babe, captained by Leon Teat, out of Apalachicola. Kyle and his two young buddies caught over 300 pounds of grouper and snapper including a 55 plus lb gag and a 40 pounder. They also had a good snapper catch bagging a 20 pound red snapper.
For 13 year olds, they did outstanding and caught more fish than most adults catch in their entire lives.
I'm going to have to get Kyle to teach me some things!!!
Happy Birthday Kyle!
Tight lines and sharp hooks,
Jerry Thompson
